Reusable cup wins entrepreneurship award

Three international cup inventors win the Green Tech category (and DKK 25,000) at the Danish Championships in Entrepreneurship for their business idea.

An environmentally friendly cup concept, developed by three international students from Business Academy Aarhus’ bachelor’s top-up in Innovation and Entrepreneurship have been awarded first prize and money for the best business idea in the Green Tech category at the Danish Championships in Entrepreneurship.

International award recipients

Behind the award-winning concept are two international students from Slovakia, Klaudia Kovacova and Jakub Biben, and an Erasmus exchange student, Franziska Reiss, from Austria.

The award-winning team ‘Swap Cup’ competed against 36 other students divided into 13 teams for the Danish title in Copenhagen on Thursday 27 May 2021.

Minimises packaging waste

The three young prize-winners want to make the world greener and have invented a recyclable plastic cup and a return and deposit system that can replace disposable cardboard cups.

The concept is currently being tested at four Aarhus cafés, after which the plan is to scale up the concept to, for example, festivals and coffee shop chains.

Earlier this month, the team won 2nd place and DKK 5,000 at the Regional Championship in Entrepreneurship.

Wall of fame

Over the years, students from Business Academy Aarhus have won several Danish and European Championship titles for their razor-sharp pitches and bulletproof business concepts.

The Academy’s lecturers have also won awards for their ability to teach entrepreneurship.

This year, another senior lecturer, Gitte Buje, could also be added to the Academy’s Wall of Fame, when she won the Educator Of The Year Award 2021.
