Product Development and Integrative Technology

Bachelor top-up programme - 1½ years - 90 ECTS

This programme will no longer be available in English from 2022 and onwards.

This programme is the direct path to further education for production technologists, information technology and electronics technologists, installers, automation technologists and energy technologists.

Are you passionate about working with innovative, technical product development? And can you see yourself in the role of someone who bridges the gap between the technical, creative, and commercial part of a development process? Are you curious about new technology and willing to investigate how technology can create value for a company? Then this is the perfect programme for you.

This entire programme is taught in English.

Theoretical and practical approach to product development and sustainability – focusing on the user

In 1½ years, you’ll become a competent and creative product developer, who combines both business models and the needs of the users. You’ll learn to think user orientation, sustainability and business understanding into product development – and to disseminate and justify decisions and solutions. You’ll learn to identify users’ needs – through for example interviews – and get the tools for an innovative approach to product development.

You will also develop prototypes and test them. In this programme, you’ll work with various technologies including 3D printing, IoT and VR.

The teaching is project-orientated, and you’ll experience close contact with the business community throughout the programme.

Become a strong developer and bridge-builder in the industry

You will be educated for a job in the industry. Your new knowledge is obtained in an industrial context – and you’ll learn about the production universe in Industry 4.0. At the same time, you’ll learn to use and disseminate research results in the field.

On our programme, we work across disciplines, which will increase and strengthen your own knowledge and give you insight into other areas of expertise. With your new competencies, you’ll be able to build bridges between the various players in a product development process.

Go abroad as part of your degree

You can study, join a summer school or take your internship abroad during the programme.

The programme is a 1½ year top-up bachelor after your Academy Profession degree – or an equivalent educational background.

Transform your competencies into concrete products

In the 1st semester, you will learn how to integrate different technologies in relation to the needs of various companies. You’ll learn to develop new products and optimise existing solutions with focus on user involvement. There is also teaching in innovation, where you will experience a more experimental approach to development. You’ll get practical knowledge about prototyping and visualisation through the use of 3D print or Arduino. With new tools and methods, you will be able to plan and manage the technical part of a development project.

We will also visit relevant cooperation partners. The semester ends with a project where you need to test your new knowledge by working with a specific challenge.

Sustainable and innovative product development in practice

In the 2nd semester, we put innovation and product development in the social and environmental context. We look at how to plan and project sustainable innovation. You will gain knowledge about cradle-to-cradle, the UN's global goals, sustainable design and product development and circular economy.

At the end of the semester, you need to prepare an innovative project where you produce a sustainable product or process improvement.

Internship and Bachelor's project

In the 3rd semester, you will get new competencies within integration, innovation and product development in the ‘real world’ as you will do your 10-week internship. To complete your programme, you must write a Bachelor project.

Teaching methods

This programme is multi-disciplinary and crosses programme boundaries, which improves and expands your own academic platform while at the same time gives you insight into the academic sphere of other professions. This provides you with excellent qualifications that you can apply directly to work processes when developing and building technological systems and products.

Apply for admission

This programme will no longer be available in English from 2022 and onwards.

In the 3rd semester, you will do an internship in a company.

In your internship you will get to test your newly acquired skills in a company and get insight into future work assignments and career opportunities. You will be able to connect your theoretical knowledge with practical experience and at the same time strengthen your CV.

In the internship, you can test a specific field of work and then focus your programme in relation to your career plans. As part of your internship, you must write a project report which is based on a problem statement from the company. Here, you will have the opportunity to specialise within your specific interests.

The internship is a mandatory part of your programme, and it is your responsibility to find an internship company. To help, we have a wide range of tools and contacts available, e.g. via our Job and internship portal.
