Sustainable development and event experience design

The summer school ‘sustainable development and event experience design' is an intensive 10-day course where you will get involved, get experience and get a theoretical understanding of sustainable event experience design during the unfolding of a global event.

The objective of the summer school is for the student to gain theoretical insights and practical experience at different interesting locations – on-site at the event village, at business partners, in the tech areas, at sea etc.

You will also obtain knowledge about: 

  • Experience Design and New Green Experience Economy
  • Sustainability and the UN SDGs
  • Doughnut economics
  • Environmentally sustainable event design
  • Climate understanding and planetary boundaries
  • Sustainable business plans
  • Marketing and communication
  • Cross-cultural learning about sustainability and green transition

The entire course will be taught in English by lecturers and professors from Business Academy Aarhus and our partners onsite.

Where and when

The summer school is offered in collaboration with the City of Aarhus (as host city) and The Ocean Race and will take place in Aarhus from 28 May - 7 June 2023.

Check-in will be on Saturday 27 May and check-out on 8 June.

Please note that you will be required to attend classes during the weekends.

Practical information

Accommodation

Book1 Design Hostel, which is in the centre of Aarhus close to direct public transport to our campus in Viby J and within walking distance of the Ocean Race location. The address is Møllegade 3A, DK - 8000 Aarhus C.

Financial issues 

There is no tuition fee for the course if you come from one of our partner universities.

The City of Aarhus has kindly offered to pay for accommodation for the first 20 students that register (according to a first come, first served basis and only for students travelling from outside Denmark).

You must pay all other expenses in connection with the summer school in Aarhus, for example, this is transport to and from Aarhus, local transportation costs, breakfast and dinner etc.

If you are offered a place on this summer school, a non-refundable payment (1140 DKK) must be paid in approximately mid-March in order to ensure your registration. This amount pays for some of the combined social activities and guest speakers etc. and will only be used for your benefit. 

Approximate budget in DKK, per person
Transport to and from a Danish airport 500 from Cph airport, 162 from Billund airport or 115 from Aarhus airport
Accommodation (at Book1 Design Hostel), with check-in Saturday 27 May and check-out Thursday 8 June 2023 Free for the first 20 students that pay their registration fee (for 12 nights) 
Meals from around 50 for breakfast and from about 100 - 500, per evening for main meals

Need to know before you come to Aarhus:

  • non-EU citizens might need a visa
  • you must have a valid passport
  • make sure you have insurance (health and repatriation)
  • you will need extra money for meals and other related costs
